The Friends of the Library Board meets on the last Monday of the month at 6:30 pm in the Independence Public Library community meeting room. Our meetings are open to the public. Once a quarter, we meet with the general membership, same time, same place.
Residents may not be aware, but the library has no budget for new books this fiscal year. This is because of a city revenue shortfall. The FOTL is working to meet emergent needs as proposed by library staff.
You can help further by joining the FOTL – $20 for an annual membership; $100 for a lifetime membership. Email indyfotl@gmail.com for more information.

We will use this medium to update members on FOTL activity and upcoming events.
As many residents know, our community services are in trouble. Capped property taxes have resulted in a revenue deficit. To address this issue, the city’s Budget Committee, made up of an equal number of City Councilors and community members, recommended in the last two budget cycles, to cut library staff and hours. While the library, in its current state, is funded through June 2026, there are no resources available starting in Fiscal Year 26-27 (begins July 2026).
